Ima dvadeset godina uspješne akademske karijere. Prošao sva saradnička i nastavnička zvanja. Od marta 2014. godine izabran u zvanje redovnog profesora za užu naučnu oblast Menadžment i upravljanje. Fokusiran je na nastavu i istraživanje iz područja poduzetništva i menadžmenta malih biznisa gdje je postigao zapažene rezultate i dao značajan znanstveni doprinos teoriji i praksi poduzetništva i menadžmenta. Voditelj je GEM (Global Entrepreneurship Monitor) nacionalnog tima BiH koji implementira najveći svjetski akademski istraživački projekt iz oblasti poduzetništva. Kao autor ili koautor objavio je 7 knjiga, 8 naučnih monografija i preko 100 naučnoistraživačkih i stručnih radova publikovanih u recentnim znanstvenim časopisima i prezentiranim na uglednim međunarodnim i domaćim naučnim i stručnim konferencijama.
Twenty years of successful academic career. He has gone through all associate and teaching titles. Since March 2014, he holds a title of Full Professor in the field of Business and Management. He is focused on the teaching and the research in the field of the enterpreneurship and the management of small and medium enterprises, where he has made significant acomplishments and meaningful contribution to the theory and practice. Prof. Umihanic is GEM national team leader for Bosnia and Herzegovina, responsible for implementing the biggest global academic research project in enterpreneurship. As an author and co-author, he has published 7 books, 8 scientific monographies and over 100 scientific and research papers published in the recognized journals and presented at the respectful international and national conferences.
